This course provides students with a basic knowledge of the theory and structure of development assistance, policies and aid projects, including ODA, NGO/NPO to address global and local issues.
- Students will deepen their understanding of the actors of development (UN agencies, governmental organisations, NGOs/NPOs, civil society, etc.) that address global and local (glocal) issues such as poverty, inequality and injustice, as well as their activities and the social issues behind them.
- Students will also be able to consider what they can do to help. They will deepen their understanding of the realities of development and aid by planning a service project in a workshop. They will research specifically career paths to international organisations and private aid organisations and volunteer/internship opportunities, consider taking part and think about what they can do for themselves.
- A guest speaker from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs will talk about the JPO programme for those interested in a career at the UN, and the President of the NPO DxP will talk about their programme to tackle youth isolation in Japan.
- Through active learning, such as discussions and presentations, students will improve their speaking and presentation skills, which are essential in this global society.
