To have the sustainable revenue/profit in the business, any company needs to have some Intellectual Property (“IP”), which is true even to small size companies. IP includes copyrights, patents, design rights, trademarks, trade secrets or special knowhow.
Initiated in the spring of 2023, in this new course, students can study the basics of each IP and related business. While IP laws differ from country to country technically, the fundamental elements are common. Students can take advantage of those learnings when working in the business field.
Students are supposed to make small presentations with their own research, after learning about relevant IP in class. For example, two presentations about “Copyright and Business” and “Patents and Business” were already conducted. Another small presentation related to other IP will come. At the end of the course, students are also expected conduct their own research on a company and discover how it has been utilizing any IP and describe its business model.
